August 27th, 2011 by Bailey Isabel

the anonymous, international group of artists known as Bernadette Corporation has explored strategies of cultural resistance

Did you know you can order archival (1995-1997) Bernadette Corporation fashion shows from Electronic Arts Intermix? That is dedicated! Just in time for idea-dry New York designers looking for a Fashion Week ref, a moment ripe for redux. EAI press clip on the collective post jump

Bernadette Corporation was formed in a Manhattan nightclub in 1994, and began organizing DIY social events that evolved into unauthorized art carnivals in SoHo parking lots. From 1995 to 1997, the group worked under the guise of an underground fashion label.

Cantaloop Nursing Bra

August 25th, 2011 by Bailey Isabel

I have to be honest, I LOVE being a mom (Check out pics on my Instagram!). Im not sure if my expectations were super low, or my baby is super good. Either way, it has been awesomeso far. While most things are easy, some things are still challenging. Anyone who breast feeds their baby knows how uncomfortable and/or inconvenient it can be. One thing that has made this experience easier for me has been a little product from Cantaloop. This nursing bra is smooth and pretty. On my skin and my babies skin I wanted something soft and these did the trick. They also have: one-hand clips, soft straps, flexible cups, and smooth lines.

Playful Proportions and Bright White Legs

July 25th, 2011 by Abigail Slessor

All of Seattle was elated last Sunday as we enjoyed a sunny and hot 83 degree day (28 degrees Celsius). This years dismal Spring and Summer weather made it an absolute pleasure! I couldnt wait to bust out a sleeveless top and wear it without an additional layer.

I wore a casual outfit that day because I caught up on admin at home, ran a couple of errands, and joined Phoebe for her photo shoot in the afternoon. I wore my newly repurposed clamdiggers and am pleased with how they turned out. Somehow, they actually look better as clams than as skinnies. I rolled them up because they havent been hemmed.

I matched up my clams with a sleeveless grey pinstripe Winter dress that I usually wear with over the knee boots and hose, or over skinny jeans. Ironic

Professional Mom on the Glam

July 25th, 2011 by Abigail Slessor

It gives me great pleasure to introduce my incredibly fabulous 33 year old client and dear friend, Phoebe. As a Test Lead at Microsoft and an engineer by profession, she works full time in a male dominated technical environment and absolutely holds her own. 15 months ago Phoebe gave birth to adorable little Kai and let me tell you honestly, Phoebe has never looked better. She juggles a HECTIC work schedule with Kai and hubby Marcus (also a Softie). Phoebes life also includes lots of travel, community work, and socializing with friends. I dont how she does it but she always looks perfectly stylish no matter what.

Phoebe missed the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preselections this year, but we made time to shop together on the second day of the official sale.

Judgmental Clothing

July 24th, 2011 by Abigail Slessor

Julie raised an interesting question in the forum earlier this week, asking whether people felt bigger in or out of their clothes. The responses were mixed, with some of us feeling bigger in clothes, and others feeling bigger when naked. Yes, we are all measurably larger when we wear clothes because of the extra layers, but clothing can also give the illusion of slimming us down.

This question is related to something that I started thinking about during the photo shoot for the bikini review. I realized that I felt slimmer in the bikini than I do in a one piece. Something about the extra exposure that reveals my true shape made me feel smaller. At this point I should mention that Im not switching to Team Bikini.

Do Heels Always Elevate an Outfit?

July 20th, 2011 by Abigail Slessor

Weve talked about the power of heels, and how they take an outfit from fab to drab. Ive also suggested adding heels to an outfit if it doesnt feel right with flats. And Team Heels reigns supreme as our poll clearly demonstrated.

Heels create a longer leg line, accentuate calf muscles, add a dressy aspect to your ensemble, and amplify your femininity. So ladies, do outfits always look better with heels?

Im going with a no. I absolutely believe in the power of heels, but also think that some outfit combinations look just as good or even better with flats (in the category of flats I am including a chunky one inch heel on a sleek riding boot.) For example, leggings were made for ballet flats.
