DIY Kiwi Mask
January 12th, 2012 by Abigail Slessor
At my spa, I use the latest technologies and carefully selected skin care products to meet my customers’ needs, but what I enjoy the most is creating my own pure, natural, and organic formulas.
Some people have really sensitive skin, and they can’t use some of the harsher products, so organic is perfect for them.
Organic products contain the acids, vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that can do everything that chemical products do—deeply clean the pores, exfoliate, detoxify, moisturize, and tone the skin, giving it a younger, glowing look.
Here is my post-holiday treat for you: my own recipe for a wonderful facial mask.
Kiwi Mask
Easy to prepare in only a few minutes, this recipe can make your face look fresh and radiant for a night out. The mask is great for both men and women at any age, with any skin type.
- Blender or small food processor
- Spatula
- 1 kiwi
- Half a cucumber
- Healing Indian Clay (can be purchased at a vitamin shop)
- 5 drops of lavender oil (optional)
1. Prepare a smooth paste by mixing 2 tablespoons of clay with 1 ounce of water. Let it sit for a few minutes for the clay to absorb the water.
2. Peel and slice kiwi and cucumber and place in a blender. Add the clay paste and 5 drops of lavender oil. Blend the ingredients well until it reaches a creamy, paste-like consistency.
3. Using the spatula, apply the paste to a clean face and leave it on for 10–20 minutes. You may feel a tingling, pulling, and tightening sensation.
4. Remove with warm water and pat to dry. Apply moisturizer.
You will get approximately 8 ounces of product from this recipe, which you can refrigerate for the next few days and use daily as long as the product lasts. As this mask does not have preservatives, it is only good to use for up to seven days.
Benefits
Kiwi: The seeds of kiwi fruit will help to gently exfoliate the skin, leaving your face smooth and soft. Kiwi is also full of alpha hydroxy acid, which can help reduce oil, prevent blackheads, and balance your complexion.
Cucumbers: Cucumbers contain the same pH as your skin, so they can clean, nourish, and hydrate your skin without stripping it of its natural protective acid layers. It also gives a lightening effect.
